THE BLACK ENGINEERS SOCIETY MISSION AND HISTORY

Our Programs

Every wednesday

General Body Meetings

We have weekly General Body Meetings (GBMs) on Wednesdays at 5:15pm (at location TBA). Sponsor (company) sessions might occur on varied days during the week. If so, stay on the lookout for an email and on our social media pages for updates.

Technical Outreach and Community Help

T.O.R.C.H (Technical Out Reach & Community Help) is one of NSBE’s signature programs to conduct outreach to middle and high school students about the wonders of STEM, and provide hands-on experience by completing an array of engineering projects.

We have monthly hands-on events. Pick-up for the material will be between 5-8pm Monday-Friday before the virtual event on Saturday.

Reach out to bes.torchchair@gmail.com to learn more about the middle & high school programs and to be added to the email list.

Pre-Collegiate Initiative (P.C.I.)

The Pre-Collegiate Initiative (PCI) main goal is to assist students in discovering how engineering and technology relate to the world around them. We assist in planning and organizing events with local NSBE chapters. Contact bes.pci@gmail.com for more information and to be added to the email list. Here are some of the big events we host annual every year:

Shadow Day

Students have the opportunity to see a day in the life of a college student! They will meet and get to shadow a current college student while attending classes and other campus activities.

College Readiness Workshop

Students will be able to learn about the college application process. College application resumes, and college essays will be reviewed by college students at the University of Maryland!

Hack Day

Middle and high school students will be able to attend a tech event and learn the basics of computer programming.

Black Hack

Black Hack is an event unique to BES meant to expose members to concepts of computer science and programming. Black Hack events consist of tutoring sessions, group projects, presentations about software development, and technical interview practice. These various activities give students the opportunity to explore programming beyond the scope of the classroom. With a range of student experience levels, collaboration is strongly encouraged to promote community and teamwork.

Academic Excellence (AcEx)

Every Sunday there will be a  study session hosted by our AcEx chair 2-6pm. If you are an active member, you will have access to the textbook/e-book and test bank access from our BES elms page. Contact bes.acex@gmail.com to get more information about the study session and elms page access.

Clark School Initiative

A new program that aims to help Black Engineers Society members with learning more about getting into the Clark school and provide more information about preparing for your specific engineering major!
